HUNTINGTON BEACH - A
Huntington Beach private investigator has been appointed by the
governor to the state's sex offender management board.
William Gailey, 62, was
appointed in March to the 15-member board which is responsible for
reviewing management practices for adult sex offenders, submitting
reports to the legislature, and developing recommendations to
improve the management of the offenders.
This position does not
require senate confirmation and there is no salary, according to a
press release by the governor's office.
Sex offenders were recently
the center of public attention in Huntington Beach after the city's
Police Department distributed fliers in March about five sex
offenders living at an Extended Stay of America hotel. KFI radio
hosts John and Ken hosted their show outside of the hotel, and the
sex offenders later left the hotel.
Gailey is a licensed
private investigator and was a detective for the Los Angeles Police
Department from 1968 to 1991. He is a retired veteran of the U.S.
Army Airborne Unit, where he served as a paratrooper from 1965 to
1968, the governor's press release said.
He has served on the
California State Bar Board of Governors and Bureau of Security and
Investigative Services Disciplinary Review Committee, the release
said.
He is the chairman of
Gailey Associates which conducts surveillance investigations,
background checks, records research, computer forensics and
political consulting.
